Toolroom Records are thrilled to announce that the wait is finally over and the anticipated return of Scotland’s own DJ/Producer KC Lights is here. Titled “Better Times,” the song has already been chosen as the “Hottest Record in the World” by BBC Radio One, and is the result of a kinetic collaboration with the talented and widely adored songstress, Lapsley.

“Better Times” is a song that seems to float and soar while encouraging the listener to believe that better times are just around the corner. This magical collaboration has already garnered the pre-release accolades from industry tastemakers, including BBC Radio One’s Danny Howard, KISS, Capital Dance, and Apple’s DanceXL song starter and more. The song’s position as a summer anthem of 2023 feels imminent.

“Better Times” emanates with vibes of happy days, roller skating and dancing with a nimble touch of 70s/80’s disco, funk, and soul but with enough of an edge that you still know its 2023. KC Lights is masterful with his ability to blend these feelings with his recognizable signature sound. While the song acknowledges the essence of the past, it is also crafted to fit the present by becoming a modern, irresistible uplifting tune. It takes you on a time machine through these nostalgic sounds right through to the familiar filtered french house sound pioneered by legendary acts such as Daft Punk and Mojo. The dulcet velvety quality of Lapsley’s emotive vocal fits with this song like a glove. It is so beautifully comfortable as she seems to glide from impossible notes to smooth and stunning heights. With its shimmering production, blissful melodies, and mesmerizing rhythms, “Better Times” encapsulates the spirit of summertime joy that will undoubtedly soundtrack the long summer evenings to come in this year.

“The idea for ‘Better Times’ manifested while I was on the train to London to meet Lapsley for a writing session. I wanted a sound that felt warm and familiar  but also new and exciting. Almost immediately, Lapsley & I knew that we had a creative connection. A few hours later, we had written the track. We just knew the nostalgic vibe and sound felt so right. For me, ‘Better Times’ is about letting go of anything weighing you down in life and looking ahead optimistically.  Looking ahead into summer, I think this song will be a big moment in my sets.” – KC Lights

“Better Times” is scheduled for release just hours ahead of the first of an extraordinary series of upcoming shows. It all starts on Saturday June 10 at Belfast’s sold-out iconic Belsonic with David Guetta, Meduza and Abel, along with a highly anticipated set of appearances in Ibiza for performances at Ushuaia on David Guetta’s “FMIF” party with Joel Corry, Sigala and more. A true Ibiza favorite, KC will also play Pacha with Robin Shulz and guests. Later this year, he will be making his first Lollapalooza appearance in Berlin.

Whether he is busy producing remixes for Paul SimonEd SheeranMKBecky HillAlicia KeysJoel CorryMarshmello and so many more or working on his own originals and collaborations KC Lights has been busy building a strong foundation from which he will be able to build from.  Without the aid of big label marketing efforts or endless schmoozing, he has created a buzz amongst his peers – “the tastemakers” of the business – and has cultivated a dedicated global fanbase. Recently, KC Lights embarked on a successful series of tour dates along the east coast of the US, and made a guest appearance on Willy Joy’s esteemed Back To Back Podcast. About KC Lights:

Scottish DJ and electronic producer KC Lights is one of today’s most exciting artists, known for his irresistible sound that blends bright euphoric house and with deep bass lines lurking below hopeful melody lines. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who’s creativity knows no bounds. He is also garnering popularity under the name of his alternate personality “6AM.” The alias allows him to break from the 4/4 128 belters to have the freedom to create some of the most beautiful euphoric versions of his original songs (and for some others) with more strings oriented and orchestral versions of the original songs.

KC has toured the world’s biggest stages including Creamfields, We Are FSTVL, ADE, The Warehouse Project, Ministry of Sound, Printworks, and is also a regular on the Ibiza circuit, performing in Amnesia, Hii, Pacha, and Eden. In addition to his smash singles like “Cold Light”, “Girl”, and “Daydreamer”, he’s remixed some of music’s biggest stars including Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Marshmello and Paul Simon and his work has been championed by Carl Cox, MK, Calvin Harris, Camelphat, Skrillex, and Claptone, to name a few. 2023 promises to be another huge year for KC, as he’s announced a string of dates in the US and Ibiza along with plenty of new music!
